Islamabad: Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang arrived in Islamabad after 11 years on his visit to Pakistan.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif received the Chinese Prime Minister at the airport. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Ahsan Iqbal, and Attarar were also present.
Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang received a 21-gun salute on his arrival in Pakistan. This is the first visit of any Chinese Prime Minister to Pakistan in 11 years. CPEC, economic cooperation, and bilateral trade will be discussed between Li Chiang and Shehbaz Sharif at the delegation level. The regional and global situation will also be discussed in the meeting.
According to the spokesperson of the Foreign Office of Pakistan, Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang has arrived on a visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The Chinese Prime Minister will stay in Pakistan till October 17. Along with them are the Ministers of Commerce, Foreign Affairs, National Development and Reforms Commission. The delegation also includes China International Development Corporation Agency and other senior officials.
The Chinese Prime Minister will also meet President Asif Ali Zardari, parliamentary leaders, and senior military leadership. Li Qiang will also attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization conference.
According to officials, the agenda of the visit is wide-ranging, focusing on expanding cooperation and launching the next phase of CPEC. A review of power sector debt is also on Pakistan’s agenda.
Sources say that the security of Chinese citizens working on projects will also be on top of the agenda during this visit. Given the recent terrorism in Karachi, China may propose a joint security company.
