A ceasefire between Israel and the Lebanese military organization Hezbollah has started since Wednesday. A ceasefire agreement was signed between the parties on Tuesday.
According to the news agency ‘Associated Press’, the ceasefire agreement was celebrated in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, and there have been no immediate violations since the ceasefire was officially launched on Wednesday.
However, Israel has warned that if Hezbollah attacks, the ceasefire agreement will expire.
Under the ceasefire, Hezbollah will withdraw its armed presence from southern Lebanon in the first two months, while Israeli troops will withdraw from Lebanon to their border areas.
Thousands of Lebanese army personnel and UN peacekeepers will be deployed to the south while a US-led international panel reviews the situation.
An Israeli army spokesman said in an Arabic-language statement on social media site X that the displaced civilians from southern Lebanon should not immediately return to their homes as the army will remain in place.
On the other hand, the local officials of Lebanon say that the ceasefire started at 4 o’clock on Wednesday, but a day earlier, Israel carried out several airstrikes on Beirut, in which at least 42 people were killed.
The cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah does not mention Gaza, where fighting continues between the Palestinian militant group Hamas and Israel.
It should be noted that Israel’s Security Cabinet approved the cease-fire agreement presented by the United States and France, which was presented by Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu.
Netanyahu’s office says US President Joe Biden, speaking in Washington, called the cease-fire agreement “good news” while his administration will also begin ceasefire efforts in Gaza.
President Biden’s administration spent a long time seeking a cease-fire in Gaza and the release of hostages. However, the negotiation process was repeatedly deadlocked.
The newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, has indicated that he will bring peace back to the Middle East. However, he did not say how this would happen.
He said that if Hezbollah breaks the agreement and tries to arm itself twice, we will target it and every violation will be dealt with effectively.
According to Lebanese health officials, more than 3,760 people, mostly civilians, have been killed in Israel’s attacks on Lebanon over the past 13 months, while more than 1.2 million people have been affected by the bombing.
Israel claims to have killed more than 2,000 Hezbollah operatives during the fighting.
More than 50 Israeli soldiers have been killed during ground operations in Lebanon, while about 50,000 people living in the northern areas of Israel had to leave the area due to Hezbollah’s operations.
During Hezbollah rocket attacks, rockets landed in Tel Aviv several times.
