A proposal has emerged to convert the three scheduled One-Day Internationals (ODIs) between Pakistan and the West Indies into T20 matches. Both cricket boards are currently engaged in discussions regarding the possible change in the series format.
According to sources, there is a strong possibility that Pakistan’s upcoming tour to the West Indies will see the 3-match ODI series replaced with T20 fixtures. The change is being considered due to the upcoming T20 Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup, which are taking priority in team preparations.
The intent behind increasing the number of T20 matches is to build team combinations and enhance readiness for major upcoming tournaments. Pakistan is scheduled to tour the West Indies for a white-ball series in late July.
Currently, the series includes three T20Is and three ODIs. The T20 matches are set to be played on July 31, August 2, and August 3 in Florida, while the ODIs are scheduled for August 8, 10, and 12 in Trinidad.
It is worth mentioning that earlier this year, a similar situation occurred when Pakistan and Bangladesh had agreed to restructure a series of 3 ODIs and 3 T20s into 5 T20s, though it was eventually revised back to 3 matches due to evolving circumstances.
