Relief is expected for the inflation-stricken citizens of Karachi, as a reduction in electricity rates is being anticipated.
According to details, while electricity rates in other parts of the country may rise, Karachi is likely to see a decrease of Rs4.69 per unit. This potential reduction is related to the fuel cost adjustment for the month of April.
In this regard, NEPRA will hold a hearing today on K-Electric’s request. If the decrease is approved, K-Electric consumers could receive a collective relief of Rs7.17 billion.
On the other hand, electricity in regions outside K-Electric’s jurisdiction may become costlier by Rs 0.10 per unit. This proposed increase is based on the fuel cost adjustment for May, which is also scheduled for hearing today.
According to CPPA, over 12.75 billion units of electricity were generated in May at Rs7.49 per unit, while the reference cost for the month was set at Rs7.39 per unit.
