The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning for thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall in several regions, including Islamabad. The department has advised the public to remain alert, stating that the monsoon system is expected to persist until July 18, with the possibility of unusually heavy rainfall in some areas.
Intermittent rains are forecasted over the next few days in various parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, northern and southern Balochistan, and Sindh. According to the Met Office, some regions may witness torrential rain accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and dust storms.
Heavy rainfall is expected in multiple central Punjab districts, including Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, and Faisalabad. Southern Punjab areas such as Bahawalpur, Multan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, and Layyah may also be impacted by the ongoing monsoon wave.
In the mountainous areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa—including Swat, Dir, Chitral, Mansehra, and Abbottabad—heavy rainfall has also been predicted. Experts have warned of increased landslide risks in sensitive regions like Swat and Malakand.
Rainfall is likely in Balochistan districts such as Barkhan, Kalat, Khuzdar, and Loralai, while southern and coastal areas of Sindh—including Umerkot, Tharparkar, Hyderabad, and Larkana—are expected to experience a new spell of rain between July 18 and 20.
Deputy Director of the Meteorological Department, Anjum Nazir, stated in a TV interview that heavy rainfall may occur in Islamabad and Rawalpindi today, and this system will shift toward southern and western regions over the next two days.
The department has instructed citizens and relevant authorities to take precautionary measures, warning that heavy rain may lead to flash floods in low-lying areas and increase the risk of landslides.
