The Punjab government is considering extending school summer vacations across the province until August 31, sources revealed. As the scheduled end of holidays approaches in Lahore and other cities, no final decision has yet been made regarding the reopening of schools from August 15.
The Punjab School Education Department is reviewing the proposal in light of the ongoing heatwave and high humidity. Officials have expressed concern that the current weather conditions could pose health risks to students, and any decision will be made after closely assessing the situation.
Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has stated that a final decision on the extension of holidays will be made after consultation. According to him, the opinions of parents, meteorological reports, and the intensity of the heatwave will be key factors in shaping the upcoming announcement.
It is worth noting that the Punjab government had earlier announced summer vacations from May 28 to August 14, with schools scheduled to reopen on August 15.
Meanwhile, educational activities have already resumed in Sindh and Balochistan. In Sindh, summer vacations were scheduled from June 1 to July 31. Public schools reopened on August 1, while most private schools resumed classes on August 4.
