The Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) has reported a slight increase of 0.05% in the country’s weekly inflation rate, while the annual inflation rate was recorded at 1.73%.
According to the weekly price report, prices of 12 essential commodities increased during the past week, 12 items became cheaper, while prices of 27 items remained unchanged.
The data shows that onion prices rose by 16.53%, tomatoes by 10.17%, and chicken by 4.12%. Prices of eggs, lentils (masoor), tea, fresh milk, diesel, cigarettes, and firewood also went up.
On the other hand, prices of bananas, lentils (moong), lentils (mash), potatoes, and sugar declined. There was also a decrease in the prices of garlic, rice, wheat flour, LPG, and petrol.
The report highlighted that sugar prices recorded a slight drop nationwide, with the average price falling from Rs179.33 per kg to Rs178.67 per kg — a decrease of 66 paisas per kg.
City-wise, sugar was the most expensive in Peshawar at up to Rs190 per kg, followed by Rs185 in Gujranwala and Sialkot, Rs182 in Quetta, and Rs180 in Bannu and Faisalabad.
Similarly, sugar was sold at Rs180 per kg in Hyderabad and Multan, Rs175 in Sukkur, while in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Lahore it was available for up to Rs173 per kg.
