The United Kingdom has decided, under a new and more effective law, to immediately deport foreign nationals convicted of crimes once they have completed their prison sentences. The move aims to reduce the burden on prisons and significantly cut costs for taxpayers.
UK Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood explained that this law will apply to all foreign prisoners who have been sentenced to imprisonment. Once they serve their designated term, they will be sent directly to their home countries instead of being kept in the UK.
According to British media reports, the implementation of this policy will lead to substantial savings in prisoner expenses. It is estimated that deporting each foreign prisoner will save an average of £54,000 annually, which will have a positive impact on the UK’s overall budget.
