Research and Development Solutions has introduced a new and simplified model to more effectively evaluate the Human Development Index (HDI) in Pakistan. The model was developed using 41 years of data from various countries, with life expectancy taken as the key target. Pakistan Social and Living Standards Measurement (PSLM) data were aligned with global benchmarks, and where gaps existed, new indicators were created to fill those voids.
Previously, Pakistan’s HDI health index was measured primarily through demographic surveys focusing only on child mortality rates. Since these surveys were not conducted regularly, consistent data was often unavailable. However, the Research and Development Solutions team has now calculated average life expectancy at the district level using PSLM data, which is considered more reliable and sustainable due to its regular collection.
The findings were also compared with global statistics to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the calculations. This approach provides a more comprehensive and updated way to assess the state of health in Pakistan.
According to experts, this method is an effective, sustainable, and trustworthy solution for evaluating the health sector in Pakistan. It will assist the government and institutions in making more informed policy decisions, ultimately enabling better strategies to achieve national human development goals.
