Recent floods have wreaked havoc on crops across large areas of Punjab. In Lahore, the overflowing River Ravi not only inundated residential neighborhoods but also swept through vast agricultural lands.
With crops destroyed on a massive scale, concerns over soaring prices of fruits and vegetables are growing. At Singhpura vegetable market, no produce is currently available for less than Rs. 250–300 per kilogram.
Punjab Agriculture Secretary Iftikhar Ali confirmed that crops have suffered significant damage, though the full extent will only be clear once the water recedes. He said vegetables, wheat, and cotton, among other crops, have been affected. While challenges lie ahead in the coming days, he urged the public to face the situation with patience and resilience.
