Asifa Bhutto Zardari has termed Pakistan’s first-ever nationwide HPV vaccination campaign as a milestone in the country’s healthcare efforts. She said the initiative marks a historic step to protect young girls from cervical cancer.
In her statement, Asifa Bhutto stressed that cervical cancer is the only type of cancer that can be prevented through vaccination. She urged parents to ensure that their daughters aged 9 to 14 receive the HPV vaccine for a healthier and safer future. “Let us join hands to secure a healthy tomorrow for our daughters,” she added.
Meanwhile, the vaccination drive has officially been launched in Sindh. At a ceremony held at Khatoon-e-Pakistan Girls School, Sindh Health Minister Dr. Azra Fazal Pechuho inaugurated the campaign.
The launch event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Health, the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and various international NGOs.
According to the Sindh Health Department, the HPV vaccine will be provided free of charge to girls aged 9 to 14 and will be available at all public schools and government health centers across the province.
