Lahore: A resolution has been submitted in the Punjab Assembly calling for a complete ban on TikTok across Pakistan. The resolution, tabled by opposition MPA Farrukh Javed Moon, urges the federal government to impose an immediate and nationwide ban on the popular social media platform.
According to the text of the resolution, TikTok has become a hub for promoting obscenity and vulgarity through its live chat features, which are luring the youth, particularly children, towards immoral behavior.
The resolution further states that young boys and girls engage in indecent conversations on the platform and encourage one another to indulge in unethical activities, which is entirely against the cultural and Islamic values of society.
It argues that the younger generation is increasingly drawn to platforms like TikTok in pursuit of cheap fame and quick financial gain, creating widespread social disruption.
The resolution appeals to the federal government to enforce a complete ban on TikTok and its live chat features to protect the country’s youth from moral decay.
It is worth noting that TikTok has previously faced temporary bans in Pakistan due to concerns over obscene and inappropriate content and its negative impact on the moral and mental development of users.
