The Islamabad High Court has removed objections raised by the Registrar’s Office on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi’s petition seeking a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan in jail. The court has issued notices to the parties and set the next hearing for October 23.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir of the Islamabad High Court heard the petition along with the registrar’s objections. Advocate Ali Bukhari appeared in court on behalf of Sohail Afridi.
The court issued notices to the Interior Secretary, Punjab Home Secretary, the Inspector General of Police, and the Superintendent of Adiala Jail to present their stance at the next hearing.
Afridi’s counsel, Ali Bukhari, informed the court that several objections had been raised by the Registrar’s Office regarding the petition. One of the objections stated that the matter had already been decided by the court previously.
The counsel further argued that another objection was related to the Chief Minister’s authority to file the petition without cabinet approval. He contended that the objection was invalid since the provincial cabinet has not yet been formed.
The court removed the registrar’s objections, declared the petition admissible, and issued notices to the respondents. The Registrar’s Office had earlier raised multiple objections to the petition seeking a jail meeting with Imran Khan.
