Karachi: The Sindh government has taken an important step to modernize the urban security and transport system.
According to Provincial Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon, the cameras and Intelligent Transport System (ITS) installed in the People’s Bus Service and EV Taxi Service will now be connected to the Safe City Network.
The aim of this decision is not only to make public transport safer but also to integrate traffic management, security monitoring, and civil protection systems with modern technology in major cities of the province, including Karachi.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said that the Sindh government is busy with full preparations for the launch of the modern EV taxi service in December. This project will provide citizens with a safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly travel alternative. In the initial phase, this service will be launched in Karachi, later it will be expanded to other major cities.
He said that the government is also introducing a separate Pink EV taxi service for women so that female passengers can have a safe and comfortable journey.
A delegation of investors met Sharjeel Inam Memon in Karachi regarding this project, which was also attended by Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, Managing Director of Sindh Mass Transit Authority Kanwal Nizam Bhutto and other officials.
Investors presented their suggestions on the structure of EV taxis, establishment of charging stations and operating models. The Minister of Transport said that this project will not only play an important role in public convenience but also in the economic development of the province.
He said that the EV taxi service will provide comfortable travel to citizens at low fares, while it will prove to be an attractive investment opportunity for investors.
Sharjeel Inam Memon further said that a new era of urban security will begin after the cameras of EV Taxi and People’s Bus Service are connected to the Safe City Network, which will significantly improve public safety, transparency, and system efficiency.
