According to information from Islamabad, Pakistani citizens are paying a total of 37 percent tax on every litre of petrol. The Petroleum Division has stated that Rs 96.28 per litre is collected as tax on petrol, forming a significant portion of the overall fuel price.
Sources revealed that diesel also carries heavy taxation, with Rs 94.92 per litre—equivalent to 34 percent of the price — being charged under various tax categories. These taxes are imposed in the form of customs duty, petroleum duty, and climate levy.
Officials from the Petroleum Division noted that these taxes make up a substantial part of the per-litre fuel price and place an additional financial burden on the public, contributing to a noticeable increase in the prices of petrol and diesel.
