At the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad, Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan formally exchanged 15 agreements and memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors. The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, reflecting the significance of the event. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to increasing bilateral trade from the current $15 million to $200 million within the next two years.
One of the major highlights of the ceremony was the agreement declaring Bishkek and Islamabad sister cities, a step expected to enhance people-to-people connections. Agreements were also signed in mining and geosciences, energy, tourism, education, culture, sports, information, and justice sectors. Furthermore, both sides finalized arrangements for the exchange of convicted prisoners and measures to promote public-level cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that President Japarov’s visit holds immense importance for strengthening bilateral ties and that the Pakistan–Kyrgyzstan Business Forum will open new avenues of economic collaboration. He reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to expand cooperation in energy, trade, and other strategic areas, emphasizing the mutual commitment to elevate relations to new heights.
President Sadyr Japarov stated that Pakistan is an important partner of Kyrgyzstan in South Asia and that both countries share common views on global and regional issues, including the fight against terrorism. He added that the agreements signed during the visit would further fortify bilateral cooperation. President Japarov also extended a formal invitation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to visit Kyrgyzstan.
During the event, the Pakistan Foreign Service Academy and the Diplomatic Academy of Kyrgyzstan exchanged an MoU, while Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Kyrgyzstan’s foreign minister oversaw the exchange of several documents. The visit is being seen as a key step in expanding collaboration, enhancing public interaction, and giving new direction to trade and development efforts between the two nations.
