Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved major electricity projects for Gwadar and Gilgit-Baltistan, aimed at improving the overall power supply and addressing long-standing energy issues in these regions. The approval was given during a meeting chaired by the Prime Minister to review ongoing reforms in the power sector.
According to the briefing, the government has approved immediate implementation of a comprehensive plan to resolve power supply disruptions in Gwadar Port City. Officials informed the Prime Minister that recent measures by the Ministry of Energy have already reduced power outages in Gwadar by nearly 42 percent.
It was further highlighted that in the next six months, a detailed plan will be executed to ensure stable voltage and uninterrupted electricity for both residential and commercial consumers.
Under the short-term strategy, 9.7 megawatts of solar capacity will be installed in major government institutions over the next 8 to 12 months, while the long-term development plan includes a 40-megawatt power project for Gwadar.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, rooftop and utility-level solar projects will be completed by 2027, which are expected to save the government approximately one billion rupees annually.
The Prime Minister directed immediate action on the 100-megawatt solar project, emphasizing the need to provide clean and stable electricity across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the development of Gilgit-Baltistan remains a key priority for the federal government, while uninterrupted electricity and essential facilities in Gwadar will transform the port into a globally competitive economic hub.
