Karachi: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has announced that the frequently damaged main artery, Jahangir Road, will be rebuilt within two months, reaffirming his commitment to providing improved and durable travel facilities for the city’s residents.
Addressing a press conference in Karachi, Murtaza Wahab spoke candidly about delayed development projects and acknowledged past shortcomings, apologizing to citizens for earlier lapses.
He said that issues related to the University Road project will be resolved by July, while work has been accelerated to ensure the early completion of the Karimabad underpass.
Murtaza Wahab stated that it is not possible to move forward as a nation without acknowledging mistakes, adding that citizens are being informed of the facts to help rebuild public trust.
According to the Karachi mayor, the Munawar Chowrangi underpass will be completed in June, while development projects worth Rs46 billion are currently underway to improve the city’s overall infrastructure.
He said that new parks, urban forests, and graveyards will be established in Karachi, with land for graveyards to be provided by the Sindh chief minister.
Criticizing negative propaganda, Murtaza Wahab said such campaigns are tantamount to hostility toward the city, as they harm not just an individual or institution but Karachi as a whole.
The mayor also revealed that the government had been persuaded to facilitate a partnership between the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases and the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, but the project was stalled due to certain elements.
He added that the health and convenience of citizens remain a top priority, and serious efforts are underway to revive stalled development schemes.
