Islamabad: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has released fresh data highlighting changes in the prices of food items and utility charges over the past year, showing increases in several essentials alongside declines in some commodities.
According to the data, sugar prices increased by 16.32 percent over one year. The average price of sugar rose from Rs137.33 per kilogram to Rs159.74 per kilogram, while the maximum price recorded in 2025 reached Rs229 per kilogram.
The report shows a significant rise in flour prices, with an increase of 22.56 percent over the year. The average price of a 20-kilogram flour bag, which stood at Rs1,794.93 a year ago, has now increased to Rs2,199.85.
The data further states that the average price of live broiler chicken increased from Rs409.22 per kilogram last year to Rs424.89 per kilogram.
Similarly, beef prices rose by 13.01 percent, jaggery by 12.46 percent, and bananas by 11.24 percent. Ground red chili became 10.31 percent more expensive, eggs rose by 9.71 percent, and milk powder recorded an increase of 9.51 percent. Gas charges increased sharply by 29.85 percent, while the price of firewood rose by 11.02 percent over the year. Prices of mutton, fresh milk, yogurt, and ghee also increased during the same period.
On the other hand, prices of several food items declined. Tomatoes became 74.92 percent cheaper and potatoes dropped by 49.79 percent over the year. Garlic prices fell by 38.17 percent, while gram lentils declined by 29.66 percent. Onions became 29.23 percent cheaper, and tea leaves recorded a reduction of 17.79 percent.
According to the statistics bureau, prices of mash lentils fell by 13.14 percent and masoor lentils by 6.62 percent, while electricity charges decreased by 6.87 percent over the past year.
