Islamabad: The federal government has decided to provide relief to electricity consumers by maintaining the average base tariff at its current level, opting not to impose any increase. The move aims to ease the financial burden on the public amid ongoing economic pressures.
According to details, the government has taken a final decision not to revise the average base electricity tariff. During a hearing at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, the Additional Secretary of the Power Division informed the regulator that subsidies had been adjusted effectively, eliminating the need for any increase in the base tariff.
Power Division officials said that significant changes have been made to the country’s energy mix since July, which have positively impacted the overall cost of electricity generation. These adjustments have helped stabilize production costs and avoid a tariff hike.
Officials emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring that no additional burden is passed on to consumers, and electricity rates will remain unchanged for all categories of users.
According to the Power Division, the government is currently providing a total subsidy of Rs 629 billion to electricity consumers nationwide, ensuring the continued availability of power at relatively affordable rates.
