Consumers across the country may receive some relief as a reduction in petroleum product prices is expected from January 16, according to informed sources familiar with the pricing mechanism. The expected decrease could bring fuel prices down by up to Rs4.59 per litre, easing pressure on household and transportation expenses.
Sources indicate that petrol prices may fall by up to Rs4.59 per litre, while high-speed diesel is likely to become cheaper by Rs2.70 per litre for the next fortnight, which could positively impact transport costs and commercial activities.
In addition, kerosene oil prices are expected to decrease by Rs1.82 per litre, whereas light diesel oil may see a reduction of Rs2.08 per litre, providing relief to consumers in rural areas and small industrial sectors.
According to sources, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) will finalize its price calculations and forward its recommendations to the Petroleum Division on January 15. Following this, the Ministry of Finance will make the final decision on fuel prices in consultation with the Prime Minister.
