Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in Karachi today, with the spell likely to begin between the afternoon and evening hours.
According to the Meteorological Department, a new westerly weather system is set to affect Sindh today, with its strongest impact expected over Karachi and the surrounding areas. Weather experts say the rainfall may further lower temperatures, leading to a noticeable increase in cold conditions across the city.
Light fog was observed in the city during the morning hours, reducing visibility to around two kilometers, while humidity levels were recorded at 84 percent. The minimum temperature today was recorded at 13.5 degrees Celsius, whereas the maximum temperature yesterday reached 27.1 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists estimate that today’s maximum temperature may remain between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius, though it could feel even colder in case of rainfall.
The department further stated that winds blowing at speeds ranging from 10 to 50 kilometers per hour from different directions are expected, which may add to the chill in the air. After the rain, cold winds from Balochistan may also affect Karachi, keeping the cold spell persistent over the coming days.
According to the forecast, the minimum temperature tomorrow may drop to between 7 and 9 degrees Celsius. Overall, the weather during the next 24 hours is expected to remain cold and dry, although light rain or drizzle in some areas cannot be ruled out. Humidity levels are expected to range between 50 and 75 percent.
Experts have advised citizens to take precautionary measures against the cold, particularly by wearing warm clothing during early morning and nighttime hours. There is also a risk of slippery roads and disrupted traffic flow due to rainfall, prompting authorities to urge commuters to remain cautious.
