A severe snowstorm has severely disrupted daily life across the United States, where continuous snowfall, heavy rain, and harsh weather conditions have led to at least 30 deaths in various incidents so far.
States including Washington, New York, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Jersey are experiencing intense cold winds accompanied by snowfall and rain, significantly affecting normal activities.
As a result of the snowstorm, more than 19,000 flights have been cancelled nationwide, while federal offices in Washington have been closed. From Arkansas to New England, over one foot of snow has accumulated, forcing the closure of major roads and the suspension of educational institutions.
Up to 20 inches of snowfall has been recorded in northern areas of Pittsburgh, where temperatures dropped to minus 31 degrees Celsius. In some regions, the cold is being described as the most severe in decades. In New York City, eight bodies have also been found in open areas.
Due to rain and snowstorms, more than one million people are without electricity, while extreme cold warnings have been issued for nearly 200 million residents across 44 states. Emergency measures have also been enforced in 24 states.
Meteorological authorities have warned that the severe cold is likely to persist in the coming days, with the possibility of another powerful snowstorm affecting the eastern coastal regions.
