The Sindh Education Department has issued comprehensive fire safety guidelines for all private schools across the province, directing immediate and strict implementation to ensure the safety of students and staff within educational institutions.
According to the instructions released by the School Education Department, the installation of fire alarms, smoke detectors, and fire extinguishers has been made mandatory in all private schools. School administrations have also been instructed to ensure regular inspection and maintenance of these safety devices.
The guidelines further state that emergency exits and staircases must remain clear, visible, and easily accessible at all times. In addition, regular inspection of electrical systems, preparation of an emergency evacuation plan, and displaying it prominently within school premises have been declared compulsory.
The department has also directed schools to conduct at least two fire drills every year and provide proper fire safety training to teachers and other staff members. Special safety arrangements for students with special needs and the designation of assembly points have also been made mandatory.
The Sindh Education Department has warned that strict action will be taken against private schools that fail to comply with these directives. Officials stated that these measures have been introduced in the aftermath of the Gul Plaza tragedy in Karachi to strengthen fire safety arrangements in private educational institutions and prevent such incidents in the future.
