The Lahore administration has imposed a ban on kite flying in areas adjacent to the airport during the Basant celebrations to ensure the safety of aircraft operations. A formal notification has been issued, stating that kite flying will not be allowed near the airport due to the risks it poses during aircraft take-off and landing.
According to the notification, kite flying has been prohibited in Nadar Abad, Gulshan-e-Ali Colony, Nishat Colony, and Bhatta Chowk. Authorities said these areas are considered sensitive because of their proximity to the airport, where flying kites could threaten aviation safety.
The ban has also been enforced in DHA blocks R, S, P, and Q. Additionally, Alfaisal Town, Joray Pul, Tajpura, and Canal Road near Tajpura have been declared restricted zones, where strict action will be taken against violators.
It is worth noting that the Punjab government has announced Basant celebrations in Lahore from February 6 to February 8, following which a noticeable increase has been observed in the sale and purchase of kites across the city. The administration has urged citizens to comply with the restrictions to avoid any untoward incidents.
