Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has invited the citizens of Lahore and the entire province to participate in the Basant festivities and has announced a regular Basant celebration at Liberty Chowk, Lahore, on February 7. This announcement is being described as an important step towards promoting cultural activities and reviving traditional festivals in Punjab.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said in her message on the social networking website X (formerly Twitter) that citizens of Lahore and across Punjab should come and celebrate Basant with us at Liberty Chowk. Basant is the festival of Punjab’s culture, happiness and colors that connects people and spreads the colors of happiness in life.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also shared the famous Punjabi song “Gadi Lahore Di Adi” with her message regarding Basant, which is being appreciated by the citizens on social media. After her message, Basant and Liberty Chowk started trending on social media, where users welcomed the Chief Minister’s move.
The Chief Minister said that keeping the culture of Punjab alive is one of the priorities of the provincial government and traditional festivals like Basant are the identity of Punjab. Basant is not just the name of kite flying but is a festival of music, color, socializing and collective happiness, which should be celebrated in a safe and organized manner.
According to government sources, security and administrative arrangements are being finalized for the Basant festival at Liberty Chowk to provide a safe and pleasant environment to the citizens. Cultural programs, music and other entertainment activities are also likely to be organized on this occasion, which will provide ample entertainment to the citizens.
It should be noted that the Punjab government has declared a public holiday on February 5 on the occasion of Kashmir Solidarity Day, while February 6 will also be an official holiday in the province, after which the citizens will have a long weekend with the inclusion of Saturday and Sunday holidays. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has already said that the people can spend their time during these holidays in a happy and fun-filled manner.
