In Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took immediate notice of the new solar-related regulations issued by NEPRA and directed the Power Division to file a review appeal without delay. He clearly stated that the financial burden of 466,000 solar consumers should not be shifted onto more than 37.6 million consumers connected to the national grid.
Following the issuance of the new NEPRA regulations, a special meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the prime minister to review the matter in detail. During the meeting, he instructed that the existing contracts of solar consumers must be fully protected and that no step should be taken that could undermine investor confidence.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif further directed the Power Division to formulate a comprehensive and balanced strategy to safeguard the rights of both solar and grid consumers, ensuring stability in the energy sector and preventing any unfair financial burden on any segment of users.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Federal Ministers Ahsan Khan Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Owais Khan Leghari, and other relevant officials attended the meeting, where the financial and structural implications of the current energy framework were also discussed.
