The judicial commission formed to investigate the Gul Plaza tragedy has formally begun meetings with the families of those who lost their lives, aiming to gather facts and prepare a comprehensive report on the incident.
The commission met affected families in Karachi, where Commission Head Justice Agha Faisal expressed deep sorrow and stated that the proceedings were appropriately initiated through meetings with the families of the martyrs. He said the tragic incident had caused immense grief and that the commission shares the pain of the affected families.
Justice Agha Faisal stated that the primary objective of the commission is to formulate effective recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future and ensure the protection of human lives. He emphasized that while financial losses may be compensated, there is no substitute for a human life. He added that a set of questions has been prepared for the heirs and that their cooperation is essential to uncover the facts.
He further said that the families may record their statements either at the site or by visiting the Sindh High Court. Other affected individuals were also urged to come forward and provide information to ensure transparency and completeness in the investigation. The commission is collecting evidence from the public, government authorities, and rescue workers to compile a detailed and actionable report.
During the meeting, the mother of Abdul Hameed, who lost his life in the tragedy, stated that she had spoken to her son at around 10:30 pm. She said he informed her about the fire and mentioned that he was returning, but he stayed behind to rescue a child. Later, his body was found in pieces, leaving the family in unbearable grief.
