Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has departed for an official visit to Saudi Arabia. According to a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is accompanying the Prime Minister, and the visit is considered highly significant in the current regional context.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Hussain Andrabi stated that the Prime Minister’s visit should be viewed in a broader perspective given the recent developments in the region. He said Pakistan is concerned about attacks on Azerbaijan and Gulf countries and stands in full solidarity with the brotherly Gulf states.
He further said that Pakistan strongly condemns the attacks on Gulf countries as such actions constitute a violation of international law. According to the spokesperson, Pakistan emphasizes three key principles in the current situation: respect for the sovereignty of all countries, adherence to international law, and the resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy.
The Foreign Office spokesperson also said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held detailed discussions with the Iranian president regarding the situation in the region. He added that the Prime Minister congratulated Mojtaba Khamenei on assuming the position of Supreme Leader and expressed concern over the ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Pakistan seeks a peaceful and lasting resolution to the tensions in the region.
Tahir Hussain Andrabi further stated that there has been no major change in Pakistan’s policy toward Afghanistan and that border crossings remain closed. He reiterated that Pakistan continues to demand concrete and effective measures from Afghanistan against terrorism.
