Pakistan State Oil has rejected circulating reports about a possible shortage of petrol and diesel in the country, stating that such claims are baseless and are spreading unnecessary concern among the public. The company said that sufficient fuel reserves are currently available in the country and supply conditions remain stable.
In a detailed report submitted to the Ministry of Petroleum and relevant authorities, the company stated that government-level reserves of petrol and diesel are sufficient for more than 20 days, which is adequate to meet national demand.
The report further noted that additional stocks held by private oil marketing companies are separate from these reserves, which further improves the overall fuel supply situation in the country.
According to PSO, nearly 80 percent of the country’s diesel demand is being met through production from local refineries, ensuring continuity in fuel supply and reducing the risk of immediate shortages.
Officials said that despite the prevailing circumstances, several measures are being taken to keep the supply chain stable and ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products.
The company stated that during the current month, two petrol cargoes have already been purchased from Oman and have arrived in Pakistan according to schedule. In addition, with government support, another petrol cargo has been secured from Saudi Arabia’s energy company Saudi Aramco.
The report also mentioned that another petrol shipment has been purchased for the first week of April, while a tender opened on March 10 is expected to secure another cargo by April 25.
According to PSO, bids received under various tenders will be reviewed to finalize an import strategy for the coming months to ensure consistent fuel availability.
Officials added that alternative options are also being considered while keeping in view the upcoming agricultural season and strategic reserves, so that the supply of petroleum products remains unaffected even in case of any potential disruptions.
