Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take practical steps to expand access to housing loan facilities for the common man, aiming to improve housing opportunities for low-income groups.
A meeting on the affairs of the Ministry of Housing and Works was held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of the prime minister, where officials provided detailed briefings on ongoing initiatives.
While addressing the participants, the Prime Minister stated that providing housing to low-income segments and promoting affordable housing projects remain among the government’s top priorities, and effective measures are essential to achieve these goals.
During the briefing on the ministry’s strategic roadmap, it was informed that reforms are being introduced in the tax structure of the construction sector, while consultations between the Federal Board of Revenue and provinces are ongoing regarding tax standardization.
Officials further stated that draft reforms related to house mortgages are also under consideration to make home ownership and construction more accessible.
The meeting was also informed that a comprehensive plan is being prepared under a public-private partnership to construct houses for low-income groups, while efforts are underway to establish a real estate regulatory authority.
