Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed relevant authorities to take necessary steps for the possible hosting of talks between Iran and the United States, aiming to strengthen Pakistan’s diplomatic role in promoting regional peace and stability.
A high-level meeting chaired by the Prime Minister was attended by senior military leadership and federal ministers, where Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to help end tensions between Iran and the United States and the possibility of hosting negotiations were discussed in detail.
The meeting also reviewed the prospects of hosting talks in Pakistan to resolve the ongoing Gulf conflict, while Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar briefed participants on Pakistan’s diplomatic engagements so far. He also shared details of his contacts with the foreign ministers of Egypt, Turkey, and other countries.
According to sources, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan will continue its diplomatic efforts to promote peace and reduce tensions in the region, and if both parties agree, Pakistan is fully prepared to host the negotiations. He also welcomed the recognition of Pakistan’s role in resolving international disputes.
Sources further indicated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will take President Asif Ali Zardari into confidence regarding the Iran-US talks, and an important meeting between the two leaders is expected at the Presidency later tonight to discuss the current regional situation.
