The first polio case of the year has been reported in Sujawal district of Sindh, where a four year old child has been diagnosed with the wild polio virus. According to officials, the case emerged in the Belo Union Council area of Sujawal.
Authorities confirmed that the laboratory of the National Institute of Health in Islamabad has verified the presence of the wild polio virus in the affected child, prompting increased monitoring and precautionary measures in the area.
Health officials stated that the polio virus is still circulating in some parts of Sindh and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, highlighting the need to intensify vaccination efforts for children.
Officials added that more than 45 million children have already received polio drops in 2026 as part of ongoing immunization campaigns aimed at preventing the spread of the virus.
They also announced that a new nationwide anti polio campaign will begin in April, targeting millions of children across the country.
