Two drones crashed into the premises of the US Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, causing a fire, while two explosions were heard in the diplomatic quarter. Security forces quickly cordoned off the area and brought the situation under control.
According to the Saudi Ministry of Defense, the embassy building sustained partial damage, but no casualties were reported as the premises were unoccupied at the time. Authorities stated that investigations are ongoing and all aspects of the incident are being examined.
Following the attack, US President Donald Trump stated that a response to the attack on the American embassy in Riyadh would be delivered soon and that it would include accountability for the deaths of American soldiers. His statement has heightened concerns of further escalation in the region.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi clarified that Iran did not target any Saudi oil facility. He described the attacks on Iran by the United States and Israel as a clear violation of international law and questioned the legal justification for such actions.
Regional experts say that any attack on an embassy is considered a serious violation of diplomatic norms, and if responsibility is attributed to a state, the consequences could be far reaching and significant.
