Indian media claimed that there is no possibility of Indian captain Rohit Sharma going to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy opening ceremony and captains meet. BCCI Secretary says that no such proposal has been received, in any case, they will not fulfill PCB’s wish.
The 2025 Champions Trophy is scheduled to be held in Pakistan starting February 19. However, India has refused to send its team to Pakistan. As a result, India’s matches will take place in the UAE under a hybrid model. Recently, there were reports that Indian captain Rohit Sharma was willing to visit Pakistan for the opening ceremony and the captains’ meet.
Now, Indian media reports, citing sources, have claimed that there is no possibility of Rohit Sharma traveling to Pakistan for the opening ceremony or the captains’ meet.
According to media reports, when the new BCCI Secretary, Devajit Saikia, was asked about Rohit Sharma’s potential visit to Pakistan, he stated that no such proposal had been received, nor had this matter been part of any discussions with the ICC.
BCCI sources have emphasized that they will not comply with any demands from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Indian media reports further mentioned that in the absence of the Indian team, the opening ceremony and captains’ meet would be kept low-key.
Interestingly, ICC Chairman Jay Shah is the son of India’s Home Minister, Amit Shah.
If the Indian team fails to reach the final, the deciding match of the Champions Trophy will take place in Lahore. It remains to be seen whether Jay Shah will come to Pakistan to present the trophy under such circumstances.
