India’s space agency has faced another major setback as its mission to place the ‘Earth Observation Satellite’ into orbit has failed.
Indian authorities have confirmed the failure of the mission, stating that a technical malfunction occurred during the third stage of the launch vehicle’s flight, preventing the mission from being completed.
According to media reports, on the morning of Sunday, May 18, the EOS-09 Earth Observation Satellite was launched into space using the PSLV-C61 rocket from the Sriharikota space center in southern India. However, the mission ended in failure.
The chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), S. Somanath, stated that during the third stage of the mission, a drop in chamber pressure of the motor case was observed, which led to the mission’s failure.
It is noteworthy that India has been active in space research since the 1960s and has launched satellites for other countries as well. In 2014, India successfully placed a satellite into Mars’ orbit.
Later in 2019, India’s attempt to land on the moon failed. However, in 2023, India achieved a major milestone by successfully landing near the moon’s south pole for the first time, which was hailed as a significant achievement.
