The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for more rainfall in several parts of the country, including Islamabad, over the coming days. Today, strong winds, thunder, and in some areas, heavy to very heavy rainfall are expected in Islamabad, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper and central Punjab.
Similarly, parts of South Punjab, southeastern Sindh, and northeastern and southern Balochistan are also expected to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunder.
In this regard, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert, warning that districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi will experience rainfall.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali has instructed all deputy commissioners to remain alert and ensure that all concerned departments are prepared for any emergency. He has also activated the Provincial Control Room and District Emergency Operation Centers.
According to DG PDMA, the control room is continuously monitoring the weather situation. He directed Rescue 1122 and other emergency services to remain prepared with machinery and staff, and to ensure timely drainage of water from low-lying areas.
He further stated that this spell of rain is likely to continue until July 1, urging the public to take precautionary measures. People have been advised to stay away from electric poles, hanging wires, mud houses, and dilapidated buildings.
DG PDMA also urged parents to keep children away from standing water in low-lying areas. In case of any emergency, citizens can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
It is worth mentioning that intermittent heavy rainfall is ongoing in various parts of Islamabad, while thunderstorm-related rain has also been recorded in Lahore, Sahiwal, Pattoki, Sangla Hill, Hujra Shah Muqeem, Sheikhupura, Mananwala, Muridke, Sargodha, Silanwali, Faisalabad, Chiniot, Gojra, and surrounding areas.
