There is a ray of hope for Karachi’s heat-stricken residents as the Meteorological Department has forecasted 2 to 3 rain spells during July, which could help make the city’s weather moderately pleasant.
According to weather expert Anjum Nazeer, there are strong chances of light rainfall in Karachi between July 9 and 11, with one or two more rain spells expected by mid-month. Speaking on a private TV channel, he added that other parts of Sindh may also receive light rain, while monsoon showers are already impacting the northern regions of the country.
Anjum Nazeer further stated that heavy rainfall is likely in the northeastern and upper areas of Punjab. Referring to Cherat, he mentioned that 92mm of rainfall was recorded there in the last 24 hours, indicating intensified weather patterns.
According to a report issued by the Early Warning Centre of the Meteorological Department, light rain or drizzle is expected intermittently in Karachi over the next three days, with mostly cloudy weather. The report added that the city’s maximum temperature is likely to remain between 33 to 35 degrees Celsius. Ongoing sea breezes could help reduce the heat intensity, bringing some relief to residents.
The Meteorological Department noted that monsoon winds are currently affecting the eastern parts of Sindh. Light to moderate showers with thunder are expected in Tharparkar today and tomorrow, while drizzle or light rain is likely in Badin, Thatta, Sujawal, Jamshoro, and Hyderabad. Other parts of the province will experience partially cloudy, humid, and hot weather.
Experts say that following rainfall in Karachi, the cool winds and humidity may briefly create pleasant conditions. However, citizens are advised to take precautionary measures during rain to avoid possible urban challenges such as flooding or traffic disruptions.
