Voting for Senate elections is underway today in the provincial assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In KP, a total of 22 candidates are contesting for 11 seats, including 7 general, 2 women, and 2 technocrat seats. According to political analysts, 6 seats are expected to go to the ruling parties and 5 to the opposition.

In the Punjab Assembly, a by-election is being held for a single seat left vacant due to the death of former Senator Sajid Mir. PML-N’s Hafiz Abdul Kareem, the opposition’s Mehar Abdul Sattar, and two independent candidates are in the race. Polling will continue until 4 PM.

In the KP Assembly, out of 145 members, 92 from the government and 53 from the opposition will cast their votes. Yesterday, 25 newly elected members of reserved seats took oath, including 21 women and 4 minority representatives.

Strict security measures have been implemented during the election process. Both provincial assembly halls have been converted into polling stations. According to political observers, these elections may influence the balance of power between the federal government and the opposition. The results are being closely watched by political circles and the general public.
