Islamabad: The Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) has signed a landmark agreement with leading Chinese companies to enhance the capacity and practical training of Pakistani engineers.
According to Express News, the agreement was reached during the prime minister’s recent visit to China at a B2B conference. Companies involved include Thar Coal Block-1 Power Generation Company, Sino Sindh Resources, and Shanghai Electric Engineering Consulting Company.
Under the agreement, Pakistani engineers will receive hands-on training on various CPEC projects. The initiative also includes exchange programs and opportunities to learn the Chinese language. Over the five-year program, 100 Pakistani engineers will be trained at the Thar Coal project, while others will be sent to China for specialized training in the energy sector.
Additionally, a special scholarship fund worth Rs350 million will be established, under which 175 deserving students will be awarded scholarships over the next five years. Pakistani engineers will also be offered online Chinese language courses to polish their skills in line with international standards.
The PEC Chairman hailed the agreement as a milestone for the practical training of Pakistani engineers, noting that it would provide them with valuable international exposure and new language-learning opportunities.
Engineer Waseem Nazir also praised the initiative, stating that it would open new career pathways for Pakistani engineers while playing a vital role in meeting the country’s energy and industrial needs.
