Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ongoing diplomatic visit to the United States is set to reach its peak today (Thursday) when he meets President Donald Trump at the White House for a key engagement.
According to reports, during his packed schedule, the Prime Minister has already attended the United Nations General Assembly, participated in a multilateral meeting of the Muslim bloc, and held separate meetings with the heads of international financial institutions in New York. Now, all focus is on the White House meeting, for which preparations are already underway.
Sources confirmed that the Prime Minister’s media team, Pakistan’s embassy in Washington, and its UN mission staff consider the meeting a certainty. Several senior diplomats have already returned to Washington to finalize arrangements, while members of the media team and journalists covering the visit from Pakistan are also heading to the US capital.
When asked by reporters about his expected meeting with President Trump on Thursday, Shehbaz Sharif smiled and said he would comment on it the next day.
Reports also suggest that Field Marshal Asim Munir may accompany the Prime Minister in the White House meeting. Earlier this year, the Army Chief became the first Pakistani military commander to be invited for a bilateral engagement at the White House.
Although no official confirmation has yet been released by the White House, all indications suggest that today’s meeting will mark a significant moment in Pakistan-US diplomatic relations.
