Pakistan and the United States have reached another milestone in their longstanding relationship as the leadership of both nations met at the White House in Washington. U.S. President Donald Trump warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir. The meeting, held in the Oval Office in a cordial atmosphere, lasted one hour and 20 minutes. U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio were also present.
According to the statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, the discussions focused on regional security and cooperation in counterterrorism. Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the need to further enhance collaboration in security and intelligence. He also thanked President Trump for the Pakistan-U.S. trade agreement and extended a formal invitation for him to visit Pakistan.
During the meeting, investment opportunities in agriculture, IT, minerals, and energy were presented to U.S. companies. The Prime Minister expressed confidence that under President Trump’s leadership, bilateral relations would be further strengthened, bringing equal benefits to both countries.
The statement highlighted that Prime Minister Sharif praised President Trump’s bold, courageous, and decisive leadership. He noted that Trump’s sincere efforts were aimed at resolving conflicts worldwide, including in Gaza. The Prime Minister acknowledged that due to Trump’s role, a ceasefire between Pakistan and India was facilitated, helping South Asia avert a potential catastrophe.
Furthermore, Sharif appreciated President Trump for recognizing Pakistan’s counterterrorism efforts and for consulting with Muslim leaders on restoring peace in Gaza, the West Bank, and the broader Middle East.
