Rainfall in various parts of Karachi has broken the spell of intense heat, triggered by a low-pressure system over the Gulf of Khambhat and adjoining Gujarat in India. Citizens experienced relief as gusty winds and showers swept through several neighborhoods.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), areas including Shershah, Baldia, Mauripur, Hawks Bay, Shahrah-e-Millat, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, PECHS, University Road, PIDC, Buzerta Line, and Kala Pul received light to heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds.
Meanwhile, the PMD has issued its second cyclone alert regarding the intensifying low-pressure area. The system is currently located about 340 kilometers southeast of Karachi, near Saurashtra and Gujarat. Meteorologists expect it to emerge over the northeastern Arabian Sea, near the Gulf of Kutch, by tonight or tomorrow morning.
Favorable environmental conditions — including high sea surface temperatures, weak to moderate wind shear, and upper-air divergence — may cause the system to further intensify into a depression, initially moving westward and then southwestward.
Under its influence, districts including Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Badin, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushero Feroze, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Thatta, Sujawal, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Tando Allahyar are likely to witness thunderstorms with light to moderate rain.
Sea conditions are expected to remain rough to very rough, with wind speeds between 45 and 55 km/h. Fishermen in Sindh have been strictly advised not to venture into deep waters until October 2. The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Centre in Karachi is closely monitoring the system.
