The Palestinian resistance movement Hamas has categorically denied reports suggesting it agreed to disarm under U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed Gaza peace plan. The group labeled such claims as “politically misleading and false propaganda,” saying they aim to undermine its regional standing.
According to the Russian news agency TASS, senior Hamas leader Mahmoud Mardawi on October 5 fully rejected the reports, stating that Hamas has not made any progress on a ceasefire nor engaged in talks about laying down arms. He maintained that these rumors distort the facts and misrepresent Hamas’s position in both regional and international contexts.
The statements come as formal negotiations on the Gaza peace proposal are set to begin. Reports indicate that the U.S. has dispatched President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and Middle East envoy Steve Biegun (or Steve Workov — per original report naming) to Egypt to advance the talks and facilitate dialogue on various aspects of the plan.
Meanwhile, President Trump warned on Sunday that Hamas would face “total destruction” if it refused to relinquish power in Gaza — a stern remark that has further heightened tensions in the region.
