Pakistan has decided to open the Badini border crossing with Afghanistan, as the Interior Ministry confirmed its readiness during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Commerce. The ministry, however, emphasized that the Balochistan government must improve the road infrastructure leading to the border before operations can begin.
According to Express News, the commerce committee discussed the proposal to open the Badini border during its latest session. The Secretary of Commerce informed the members that a formal letter has been sent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while the Interior Ministry has already cleared the project.
He added that the ministry is now waiting for a response from the Foreign Office. The Customs Department will require approximately three months to complete its arrangements, while the FIA has already submitted its readiness report.
The Special Secretary of the Interior Ministry briefed the committee that the road leading to the border stretches around 130 kilometers, making it difficult to fully operationalize the crossing until the infrastructure is improved.
Committee Chairperson Anusha Rahman inquired whether construction work on the Afghan side had been completed. In response, the Special Secretary said, “We are fully prepared to open the Badini border. Once the Balochistan government upgrades the road infrastructure, we will deploy the FIA personnel accordingly.”
Officials say this development marks a significant step toward enhancing Pakistan-Afghanistan trade relations and improving cross-border connectivity between the two nations.
