Karachi has seen a significant drop in tomato prices in recent days. Tomatoes, which were sold for Rs 500 per kg till a few days ago, have now become slightly cheaper, which has caused some satisfaction among the citizens.
Assistant Commissioner Gulzar Hijri Irfan Nizamani presented a detailed report to Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi regarding the prices across the city. According to the report, the official price of grade I tomatoes has been reduced from Rs 207 per kg yesterday to Rs 195 per kg. However, these tomatoes are still being sold in the market at Rs 238 per kg, which is higher than the fixed price.
Similarly, the price of grade II tomatoes has also been reduced. Its new official price has been reduced from Rs 141 per kg to Rs 113 per kg, while the sale of this grade tomato in the market continues at a rate of Rs 138 per kg.
Commissioner Karachi Syed Hassan Naqvi has directed the concerned Deputy Commissioners to ensure strict implementation of the government rates. He said that price gouging will not be tolerated under any circumstances, and immediate action should be taken against the violators to ensure availability of food items to the citizens at fair prices.
