The Meteorological Department has forecast a noticeable increase in cold weather intensity in Karachi, warning residents to remain alert as severe and dry conditions are expected in the coming days.
According to weather experts, the port city is once again likely to come under the influence of cold and dry winds, which may result in a significant drop in temperatures and make the weather feel harsher than usual.
Meteorological Department spokesperson Anjum Nazir Zaigham stated that from January 6, cold and extremely cold north-easterly winds from Balochistan will move towards Karachi, triggering a new cold wave in the city. He added that these winds will not only make the weather dry but will also lead to an unusual increase in cold intensity during night and early morning hours.
The Meteorological Department said that as a result of this cold wave, Karachi’s minimum temperature is expected to fall into single digits, with the mercury likely to drop to around 8 degrees Celsius. Experts noted that if wind speeds increase, the perceived cold may feel even more severe.
Weather experts have advised citizens to adopt precautionary measures, particularly urging children, the elderly, and sick individuals to use adequate warm clothing to protect themselves from the cold, while avoiding unnecessary outdoor activities during nighttime hours. The department added that weather conditions will continue to be closely monitored over the next few days and the public will be informed promptly of any changes.
