In recent days, the intensity of cold weather has significantly affected residents of Karachi, as icy winds blowing from Balochistan have kept temperatures unusually low across the city.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Karachi was recorded at 9.5 degrees Celsius, bringing the city close to a multi-year cold record. The increased chill during night and early morning hours has also impacted daily routines, forcing citizens to rely on warmer clothing.
In its latest forecast, the Early Warning Center has indicated that gradual improvement in Karachi’s weather conditions is expected in the coming days. Meteorologists believe that starting Tuesday, overall temperatures in the city may begin to rise slowly, leading to a reduction in the intensity of the current cold spell.
The Met Department explained that this change is mainly due to the weakening of cold northeasterly winds originating from Balochistan. As the influence of these winds diminishes, a shift in wind direction is expected. Initially, winds from the Quetta side are likely to stabilize, followed by southwesterly sea breezes that will help moderate the city’s weather.
Experts say that this transition may result in noticeably milder daytime temperatures, although slight chill during the early morning and night hours is likely to persist.
The Meteorological Department further stated that Karachi’s minimum temperature on Wednesday may range between 9 and 11 degrees Celsius, while on Thursday it is expected to remain between 10 and 12 degrees Celsius. There is also a possibility of fog developing in the city on Thursday morning, which could reduce visibility, prompting motorists to exercise caution while traveling on roads.
Meteorologists added that fog may also occur in other plain areas of Sindh during the morning hours. Citizens have been advised to continue wearing warm clothing and avoid unnecessary travel during early hours. According to the forecast, the current cold spell is gradually weakening, and the weather is expected to become relatively pleasant in the coming days.
