Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that the reconstruction of Gul Plaza, which was destroyed in a fire incident, will require at least two years, as the project will be carried out with careful planning and in phases.
He stated that the Sindh government’s primary objective is to protect human lives and ensure the rehabilitation of affected traders. Sharjeel Memon said that the Sindh Chief Minister has ordered a complete inquiry into the Gul Plaza tragedy, and the inquiry report may be released at any time. He added that if the findings are not satisfactory, a judicial inquiry will be initiated immediately and action will be taken against those found responsible.
The senior minister explained that the same number of shops will be rebuilt in Gul Plaza as existed previously, while affected traders will be shifted to shops in nearby plazas on a temporary basis to minimize disruption to their businesses.
He further said that the Karachi Chamber, in coordination with the government, is holding discussions with market associations regarding safety standard operating procedures, warning that markets failing to fully comply with the required SOPs will be closed to prevent future incidents.
