MQM Pakistan has demanded the resignations of Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab, and Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon over the Gul Plaza tragedy. The party also announced that it will not retreat from its demand for the formation of a judicial commission to ensure transparent investigations into the incident.
Senior MQM leader Dr. Farooq Sattar stated that the party wants to convey a clear message to the Sindh chief minister, the information minister, and the Karachi mayor that no attempt to divert attention from the Gul Plaza tragedy will be allowed to succeed. He said that even if the Sindh government withdraws security from MQM leaders or registers false cases against them, the party will continue its struggle to secure justice for the victims of Gul Plaza.
MQM Pakistan has decided to raise a strong voice for the rights of the affected victims. During a party meeting, various options were discussed, including launching a protest movement, forcefully raising the issue in legislative assemblies, and pursuing legal action through appropriate forums.
Earlier, MQM leader Mustafa Kamal had alleged that the Sindh government had withdrawn security from MQM’s federal ministers and party leaders, triggering political concerns.
However, according to sources, security has since been restored to Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Mustafa Kamal, Farooq Sattar, and Anees Qaimkhani.
